Head Gasket

Post by Tuggle »

Glad the Forum is back up thought I might be going at this blind. Be that as it may have narrowed down my overheating down to cylinder six, blown head gasket I hope, some discoloration in the oil, don't won't to run the engine anymore fearing further damage. Should I pull both heads, have them redone or just the bad one replace the gasket and be done with it. Little concerned about having the heads redone, raising the compression and stressing the OLD lower end. Chime in open for any and all suggestions

If your engine has good oil pressure, don't worry about the bottom end. You will never change your compression enough with a valve job to do any bottom end damage, unless it is really beat. If you pull one head and find a popped gasket, send it in and have it checked. If the shop recommends a valve job, pull the other head and have them both done. Pay attention to which rocker shaft went on which head. They have to be installed right for the rockers to get oil.
