I'm tired of messing with the stock sea strainers.
What is the best replacement that fits the existing location?
My boat is 88 raw water cooled with 360 motors.
The hose look to be 1.5 inch ID from the sea rooster to the strainer.
The port has always been hard to get sealed and I ended up using clear silicone around the edge and that worked but is a PITA
Now the other side is doing the same.
It looks like the edge that the gasket rest on is starting to lose the sharp edge and letting the gasket sit at an angle.
I would like to replace and be done with it
Thanks to all for any help

Re: raw water sea strainer replacement
Are you sure it's not just the gasket. I think Buck Algonquin stocks them, When I had the same problem, they sent me 4 gaskets FOR FREE. A pair and a spare pair. Problem solved with new gasketJEB wrote: The port has always been hard to get sealed and I ended up using clear silicone around the edge and that worked but is a PITA

The trick is a good gasket and DO NOT LET THE TOP SPIN WHEN YOU SNUG DOWN

Re: raw water sea strainer replacement
Thanks guys,
I have new gaskets and use them.
Yeah the actual casting has defects or has started to erode...
The ledge the gasket sits on is not at a horizontal angle any more.
I have had to use silicone to seal around before and that worked but I'm tired of doing it that way.
I'm pretty handy mechanically, rebuilt carbs, took off one head and replaced, rebuilt both hydraulic stearing pumps, replaced fuel pumps, serviced the distributors, put in new bilge pumps, serviced the AC unit, went through all electrical systems, exhaust manifolds and risers etc.....its a boat...etc.......all with excellent results.
I would like to replace them with a modern superior product, I just don't think they are a good desighn and are a known problem. Thanks for the info and when I find a superior replacement I'll post the info.
Thanks !!
