I find it hard to believe my raw water thermostats are going bad every few years. Is there a way to clean them. I run the boat in freshwater. I would think the marine thermostats would be corrosion proof....but who knows. Any tips, ideas? Do you soak them through the winter...etc??

I know this might sound wacky, but put the stat (or stats) in a plastic cup and fill it with vinegar (white or malt, doesn't matter) Let them sit for a couple days, then clean them with an old toothbrush. The vinegar has just enough acidity to clean the rust & crud off, but mild enough that it wont eat the metal.
