Re: Replacing cutlass bearing
I suppose it depends upon use. I would still say it's a long damned time. I wouldn't worry about it. When you pull your boat out see how the shaft feels in the cutlass bearing. I don't think a little play hurts a thing. It might even be beneficial. These boats don't get drag raced.

Re: Shaft packing for prop shaft gland
Thank you Bret and Joel. After reading the material I'm going with 3/16" which allows me to fit three staggered pieces nicely. When I bought the packing flax I ordered two of the packing wrenches too. I'll keep those on the boat so I won't have any excuses not to check and adjust periodically. ...

Re: Replacing cutlass bearing
You're right. It was a blessing in disguise that I needed to replace my driveshaft. That bearing would have sat down there causing problems and I would have never known.DougDoty wrote:No guessing, it must GO !!!

Well, turns out my cutlass was replaced with a metallic sleeve bearing. I'll cut this thing out, I guess.

Re: Replacing cutlass bearing
So the only bearing to replace is in the strut tube?
Did you buy a strut bearing puller?
