Re: Perko Fuel Filter/Water Separator Model 299
@jralbert... I was able to get back to the boat after all the snow to retrieve the batteries and inspect the fuel/water separator. No issues! The assemblies came apart as they should. The Port-side inside of the assembly was apart (top was unscrewed from the filter holder) so I simply tightened them...

Bow seating
I've noticed on many 32' ers, there is integrated bench seat on the bow above the salon instead of the forward windows. This is similar to CC Catalina designs of the 70's/80's. My 28' and most other models in all BigM shapes and sizes contain the forward window in that spot with NO bow seating. But ...

Re: Perko Fuel Filter/Water Separator Model 299
In regards to the fuel/water separator, I have (likely) the original bronze perko 299 for each engine. Can someone tell me the basic maintenance or operation of the units? I've had the boat for 2 full seasons and I haven't touched them. I want to know what I should do to service or maintain them as ...

Re: Engine Drain Plugs
I’m planning to winterize the 318’s myself. I plan to drain the block & manifolds, trans cooler, etc of raw water. Just so I’m perfectly clear, I’m seeing the following plugs on each engine. One side of a single 1984 Chrysler 318 Engine has the following . 1 on the block 3 small (5/16”) on the l...

Re: Engine Temperature spike
Ok, replaced both 160 deg thermostats with the 140 deg type. Both engines running a tad cooler and no temp spikes on STBD to speak of. I feel confident that this issue is now closed. Thx everyone for comments and support. Makes me wish I had more issues to solve
Sincerely,
Joe

Re: Engine Temperature spike
If after checking it’s not working, what T-stat would you recommend? Any standard 160 deg for the 1984ish 318?

Re: Engine Temperature spike
Behavior seems indicative of a bum T-stat. And now I’m 2nd guessing whether I did or didn’t put the “new” one in or not. Anything is possible. Time to change it out again, dag-nabbit. Anything for my Big M!
