Auto Pilot systems

I am looking for some information on auto pilots for a 1988 32' FSB. I found two wheel auto pilots. CPT auto pilot and Raymarine EV-100 wheel evolution autopilot. The wheel type would attach easily to the indoor helm. The Raymarine also has a hydraulic pump model. The is very little information on this forum on new autopilots. Is it because most Marinettes already have installed units.

Hi. I refurbished an original King that I found on the boat. It is adequate for straight compass heading but not much more. I had started looking into the octopus drives, and simrad that I have installed before. Maybe some dos information for you,
http://octopusdrives.com King marine in Fla. and Simard all can be built up from components. Proceed with then that has the most appeal to you needs.
Good luck
Chris

If you install one, be sure you don't do what this boob did: left her going while he made a trip to the head!

Hi Yooper, to really have a autopilot you have to convert the steering to hydraulic. The easy way to do this is to use seastar helms which are hydraulic pumps operated by you turning the wheel to displace the fluid to the steering cylinder at the rudders. You then add your reversible hydraulic pump for your autopilot system just prior to the steering cylinder which is D.C. powered and gets inputs from the autopilot system and your GPS completing your system.

On a sad note, the same thing happened on the Bay a decade ago. Yacht without a human at the helm ran down and killed some fishermen who couldn't get their motor started fast enough to get out of the way.
In-freakin'-excusable!
