Transmissions

Anyone ever have a problem with the flex pate that connects the engine to the transmission? Had someone recommend changing them every 5 years and wonder how long they last.--Ed

They have a spring cushion that can eventually go bad. The warranty from most rebuilders requires they get replaced when a rebuilt trans is installed. My port trans is original with 1400 hrs and flexplate is just fine. I see no reason to replace it unless it gets noisy.

If your motor idles roughly, or too low, it beats the hell out of that plate.

I know the "book" says to idle at 600-700 rpm, but mine were always set to idle at 1,000 rpms and the flex plates are still good after at least 15 years. So....
