Hey all, looking for some quick help here. I am going to pick up a 1978 28' express this weekend. It will be getting moved from storage and placed in the water for me to load onto my trailer. I need to make sure I get all the plugs put in and I do not know where they are all located. Any advise will be appreciated, Thank you and cheers.

If your 28' has not been modified by a previous owner...it should have a single drain plug in the forward bilge just aft of the v-berth. This is the lowest part of the boat when it's floating.

Paranoid as I am, I'd take a close look at every part of the bilge that you can get to (including engine room/stern) just to be sure. Some people add drain plugs in the back.

While the boat is in the water you may want to take a peek at the propshaft and rudder packing boxes to see if they leak. Any more than a slow drip means they need to get tightened or possibly re-packed.

our 32 had a plug forward.. under the stbd side of the v-berth and another one a little aft of midship just a little stbd of the centerline in the engine compartment. I know that there is a wide difference between the two lengths. Any competent yard hand should be able to identify a drain plug, especially an unplugged one (otherwise known as a hole in the hull)!

My 28 has two plugs one aft of the v birth and one in the engine compartment towards the front.

Thanks guys for the help, just one plug on mine, starboard of center just aft of the v birth. We got the boat loaded on my trailer and home no problem. Looks like the plug on mine may be brass, I have to clean up and check. Should be stainless to prevent corrosion issues correct?
