By chance, would a Norcold ac/dc Frige from 1987, with top freezer, be self defrosting?. Mine has been frosting over a lot and hoping it maybe just the thermostat.

The OFF function serves as the defrost. Download the manual from this link. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... share_link

I am aware of that. Modern day refrigerators have a self defrost in them, it was the early 70’s when we had to empty it and chisel the ice out.

I had a 1989 Norcold. Freezer on top. The defrost mode requires a heating element on standard home refrigerators. The 12v/110 versions on boats do not have the defrost mode as it would take too much power. Turn off and be patient while the ice melts.
Good luck
