Oil Plug Came Out Under Power

Post by Steven »

This past weekend the oil pan plug came loose and all the oil in the port engine came out under power. The port was only under power for 5 to 10 minutes before I shut it off after hearing some noises, it was running at 1500 to 2000 rpms. I had some smoke that came from the engine, but not much and short lived. I am disappointed with my mechanic as they changed the oil before dropping it in and I believe didn’t install the plug correctly. We did have some weekend of use between, this wasn’t the first trip. I want to have a compression test performed to see if their was any damage. Should I consider anything else?

Thanks in advance,
Steve

Oh brother! It'll be a miracle if the bearings aren't destroyed.

I would waste my time on a compression test--that's the least of your worries.

Sorry.

As Bill noted, your engine alarm should have sounded as soon as oil level and pressure reached danger point. I'd also check pistons for damage

Most people suck the oil out of the dipstick don't they? I would check with the mechanic to see how they do it. It may not be their fault, but if they did use the drain plug, they probably share some responsibilty.
