Removing carbureator

Post by wschneid »

I have a 5.0 KW Westerbeke 5.0 BGE generator in my 1986 32' sedan flybridge. The generator did not work when I bought the boat 8 month ago. I decided to see if I could get it running. I replaced fuel pump, fuel filters, spark plugs, checked oil, etc. Amazingly it turned over right away, but didn't start. I used some starter fluid and it would start and run for a few seconds. So I am assuming the carburetor is fouled. I want to remove it to rebuild or replace it, but I can't figure how to remove it.
Has anyone done this or know where I can find instructions on how to get it off.

Most gas powered marine generators have electric fuel pumps. If yours does you need to make sure it is powering up while cranking. A test light will tell you if you have power to it.
