1. Well he kind of has a signature. No boat yet so he has to describe his Bar-B-Que skills. I see a future as a pirate or maybe we'll see him on TV doing boat repo's.
2. I don't know of the factory putting a hinged section of railing in. I just have a chain across the openings for boarding. Sounds like a modification by a previous owner. The rail is likely a hollow aluminum extrusion. For strength, I would drill all the way through and put a machine screw with a self-locking nut on the bottom. For hardware, it's what can you find in stainless that will work?
