My distributor hold down system is the stlye that uses a straight screw driver screw to tighten. The cap down. Anyone have a lead on where to buy them? Having trouble with play in the cap. Its a 1973 318 .

You're saying the screw won't tighten up enough to hold the cap down?

Yes. Or the cap is an automotive cap. Not sure so i would like to start with the correct parts on both. It has the old point system out and the electronic style of some kind in and i have a miss on top end. I have changed the timing and it helped for a day but then changed. Something is moving or breaking down. Just trying to find it.

If you have the Chrysler electronic ignition system, check the reluctor and make sure it is tight. The timing on ours was jumping all over and found a loose reluctor to be the cause.

The advancing mechanism tends to stick, which makes timing the motor at idle incorrect--the advance didn't come back to the idle position. That makes the motor retarded at WOT.
A few drops of oil on the wick under the rotor, followed by a few minutes of flipping the advance back and forth with one's fingers, often cures this problem.
