Head shower pan

Postby jennis9 » Tue Aug 14, 2018 8:47 am

Does anyone have an explanation or a diagram on how the shower pan in the head is plumed? I have a 32 express and dumped a bit of soap onto the metal shower pan and I am not sure how much got in there - but it was a goopy mess.

I'm not sure if the weep holes in the v channel are clogged or where they are - and of course this is the only system I have not tested.

I turned on the shower pump and dumped about three cups of water into the channel but it was a real mess. so I'm not sure if it got to the pump box.

Mine 32 express goes to the shower sump, then pump pumps it overboard , not into the bilge. I would think by putting hot water down drain it would make it's way to the shower sump.

can you snake a thin wire thru the drain?
UPDATE, referring to Carl's post just below where he gets specific. In my former '32, the sump was located just inside the entrance to the fwd v-berth, under the carpet. Very easy access.

Your shower pan will have a hose connected to it underneath, this hose will go to your shower sump pump box. You should be able to access it all by removing the forward floorboards out of your boat, typically the same floorboards you would remove to access your forward bilge pump if you have one. It's possible your shower sump pump box has been neglected as they so often are. If you can find the shower sump pump box then you should be able to clean it out (nasty job) or replace it. You can also replace your hose and clamps at that time of back flush the hose back into your shower pan. Good Luck.

Thank you! great suggestions.

I also love the HOT water suggestion. I was worried about the soap getting gummy, that should work well. I'll see if I can get it cleaned up - and I do know where I can get a new sump setup, so I should be covered. :)
