Need a strut

Hi Folks,

I need a Starboard Shaft Strut for my 1990 32' twin engine Marinette. Must have hit something at sometime in the past and bearing replacement showed it to be out of alignment. 10 year insurance Survey caught it. The yards machine shop doesn't want to straighten it.

Anyone have one, or know the best source for one (I am in the middle Chesapeake Bay)!

Thanks!

Bud

I had to make my own. I do have the jig that I used. If you have the ability, or know a good welding shop, you are welcome to use it. Just cover shipping to and from. You will have to check a few dimensions to be sure it is the same.

I have a good welding shop in Michigan I use that could probably make one and ship it to you.

I think that I read somewhere that Pluckebaum in Louisville made them. Probably not cheap but they sure know the boats.

Replaced both of mine last year, bought them directly from Marinette.

For what size prop shaft is your shaft jig? 1 1/4?

I got mine from John Althouse. He had the rights to the Marinette Brand . He had a lot of parts and jigs to make all the Marinette struts. A few years ago he had a bad stroke and his dad Tom was carrying on in a limited fashion. They had an account on this forum. Don't know the current status. They live in Marquette Michigan. Those strut jigs would come in handy for a talented aluminum welder.

Sounds like that would work for this bearing DEENA 1-1/4" x 1-1/2" x 5" Johnson Cutless Non-Metallic Bearing. I will send you a PM.
Last Question - Looks like the hole coming into the boat for the shaft, don't know the technical term for it, is about 1 1/2 inches I.D. That does not leave a lot of room for a 1 1/4 shaft. Any issues running a larger shaft through there? Want to go from 1 to 1 1/4 to run a larger prop.

You would also have to change your shaft packing gland.

Yes - I think I can take the ones from the 1" props and use them on the new rudders. I had the old plastic ones on the rudders and they came out in pieces.
