Let me make a comment. Carl is just a few slips away from me on the same dock & I've watched and admired his progress in making his M better than new from the factory. He does all the work himself even tho he works all over the world and is gone 3 months at a time sometimes. Jeff and Carl are real smart guys( I forgive Jeff for not wanting a fly bridge). Both engineers one working one retired. Jeff & I take the same fugal "cheap" approach even tho Jeff has all his money buried in his back yard. I have none. Carl shops for the best price but in my option goes first class because he is going live on the boat. I consider both be be friends and have contributed a great deal to our love of Marinette boats. Carl is headed for the Bahamas, Wish I could do that.

I like how both Jeff and Carl handled the bow rail corrosion issue. I repaired my rail bases in 2009. Before doing it, I called the engineers at Broward Yachts which are all aluminum and normally in salt water. They acknowledged the tough nature of the problem. Their solution in 2009 was to weld aluminum cups to the deck of the boat, then glue a perfect fit delrin cup in the aluminum cup, then glue the stainless rail into the delrin cup. They believe they achieved a waterproof mount with no dissimilar metals touching.

Beautiful work, but (there's always a "but") I would have 'relieved' the bottom of those plastic washer deals to let water flow beneath them. The original rubber gaskets tended to create crevasse corrosion.
