I also have a 440 and coincidentally have been planning on replacing the seawater intake valve. The original gate valve started to leak last season and I don't want to find out what happens when a little drip turns into a big drip.
I haven't started the project yet, but my plan is to continue using the original scoop strainer (isolated from hull) and replace the old gate valve with a true bronze seacock from Buck Algonquin. A true seacock is supposed to be bolted to a backing plate which is epoxied to the hull...no bolts actually going into hull. If marine plywood coated in epoxy is used as a backing plate, the bronze seacock would be isolated from the aluminum.
Even if you could put together all the right Marelon parts...the Buck Algonquin bronze is quite a bit cheaper.
