Have you replaced the fuel lines?

I have not replaced the line from my filter to my pump. Its a stainless line.

I can run a new one if the problem persists. I'm on a mad scramble to find a fuel pump locally.

No mechanical pumps yet. All I can get locally by tomorrow am is the electric pump:

Thanks a ton for the suggestion. Do I just bypass the old pump? Cap it off?

I'll call the techs today and still look for a mechanical replacement because the recurring theme seems to be that stuff breaks on Thursday or right before holiday weekends. I guess the boat want's time off too

Make sure your fuel filters aren't choking the fuel demand. The micron size is very important. Don't worry remember the minimum size. Someone on here will chime in. Keep us up to date.

In old post on the site you will see a fuel pump gear,cam not sure the correct name that you would have to take the front of the motor off to check if going back with a manual pump and if the motor has some age on it this would be in the back of my mind to go bad next. As for the electric fuel pump also talked about on here the oil pressure safety switch is the only way to go. Keep the holiday weekend safe!

Sounds like electric is an easier route.

I will look at the filter specs (never thought about it) - I know the one filter is basically a fine screen because its glass and I see it but the Sierra Fuel Separator should be checked.

I have suspected that filter acted as a reservoir which allowed the engine to run for that 20 seconds. Thanks for the input!

You can remove the fuel lines from the mechanical pump without any real issue. The cam in the engine will continue to push the actuator arm up and down but that's not detrimental. Eventually (post boatin' season) you could remove the mechanical pump, get a piece of stainless plate, cut it to size / drill appropriate mount holes, add a gasket, and cover the hole in the engine block where the pump went. The mechanical pumps are tough to find these days.

Jeff, at one time, mentioned that he'd come up with an electric pump that ran about 35.00 or so and was marine approved.

Don't forget to wire it in on a circuit that shuts off when the key is off.

Good call... That would not be cool at all. I'll identify my lines & wire taps while I wait on the part. I like the oil pressure switch as a safety as well.
