Pumping out your holding tank
For private dock use would like to be able to pump out the holding tank into a portable RV type pump out tank and than haul it up to my septic tank.
Does anyone do this? If so what is the pump out rig in the boat?? Attachment etc. Thanks

Yup--West Marine and others sell it. Messy, stinky job but....
If I still had my Marinette, I'd invest in a LectroSan toilet that incinerates the....you know. Not cheap, but you'd be so much better off in the long run.

I haven't done this. Having lived in the country and digging up my septic tank a couple of times, I guess I feel pumping out at a marina is worth the cost (if there is one. Some marinas allow slip renters free pump out).

Does using the LectroSan toilet mean you can dump the residue in the bay??? What about your shower water??
Re: Pumping out your holding tank
Never heard/read of any restrictions on shower water. Incinerated contents of lectro-san go onto the garden

We don't have a marina within 25 miles. I live in the country so do have a septic tank and a dump station for my RV. In the past with the 34 Californian I pumped into the portable RV type tank and hauled it up to my septic tank. Not the best, but all things considered it works. I'll have to read up on the lectro-san and see how that works.

Re: Pumping out your holding tank
BEFOR I GOT MY "M", I HAD A 26 FOOT SEARAY THAT WE BROUGHT HOME ON A TRAILER AND WINTERED IN MY SHOP.. I USE TO USE A 5 HP SHOP VAC AND PUMP IT DRY, AFTER I GOT A PUMPOUT AT THE MARINA FOR THE LAST TIME. MY SHOP VAC HAD A GARDEN HOSE CONNECTION ON THE TANK WHICH I RAN TO THE HEAD IN MY WORK SHOP.. I DIDN'T TOUCH ANYTHING, EVER... THAT WAS UNPLEASANT.. AFTER THE HOLDING TANK WAS EMPTY, I PUT IN THE R/V ANTI-FREEZE. IN THE SPRING I PUMPED THAT OUT WITH THE SHOP VAC, CLEANED EVERYTHING WITH A GALLON OF BLEACH AND A COUPLE GALLONS OF WATER, THEN PUMPED THAT WITH THE SHOP VAC TOO..! THAT CLEANED UP EVERYTHING FOR THE SEASON AND WE WERE SET FOR NEXT TIME... MY 5 H.P. SHOP VAC CAME FROM LOWE'S HOME CENTER... THEY WORK, I USED THE CONE SHAPE ATTACHMENT. IT DIDN'T COST MUCH AND WAS EASY TO CLEAN IT UP.... HOPE THAT HELPS OUT A LITTLE..

I would rather use the marina facilities than that! Yeeeuuuckk!
Jeff
PS: Damn clever, though. I use a shop vac to pull the oil out of the motor on my new boat. Oil stops at an old propane tank I got for nothing (of course. (Legendary cheapskate!)
