I'm putting in a new waste (head) water holding tank system. I've determined that a Moeller 20gal tank will fit in the forward berth area. That area is divided by PO into an upper section (nearest to the bow) and a lower section (nearest the bulkhead in the 'dressing area'. It is that lower area where the 20gal tank will fit/be located.
I need to run a vent line from the new tank and had anticipated using a Shield's 5/8" sanitation hose. Where I'm a bit stymied is what type of vent fitting to place in the hull, just under the gunwale on the starboard hull.
- Anyone have any suggestions on vent type? I'm looking at a Perko 90 deg gas tank vent but that has a zinc alloy body and that concerns me - potential corrosion issues<?>.
- Should there be some type of charcoal cartridge in the vent line?
- Other considerations?
Thx,
Bill

Re: Holding tank vent
Carl, Marinette did not come w a wast line filter, but I can show you how to make a serviceable filter. I've made lots of them for the boats at our marina .

Re: Holding tank vent
Carl (et al)...
I've got all the primary pieces (tank, waste line, vent line, deck fitting, monitoring system, and vent fitting) ordered. Everything else is Lowes / Menards purchase (including how to make a vent line charcoal filter). My thanks to FastJeff who some time back (post WWII - pre 2011 elections... ) posted on the old site (?) how he had secured a waste tank which will help immensely.
I have some scrap aluminum around the house which is about 3/16" thick. I'll use that for the Forespar vent. If it's not rigid/secure enough, I'll use that piece of scrap and epoxy it to the hull to "build up" the thickness. PC-11 is great for this. Will keep all advised.
