Stress cracks ???
While taking my daily jog through various classifieds, I came upon an ad for an M that stated " all stress cracks have been re-welded from front to rear". Are stress cracks a common occurrence on the M ?

Re: Stress cracks ???
Thinking hard about past notes on forums going back + 20 yrs, can't recall any references to stress cracks. Agree, keep moving on

Re: Stress cracks ???
Thanks, that's the first I've heard of that in an aluminum boat. Maybe at one time it was strapped to the belly of the now defunct space shuttle. Reading that made me want to steer clear of it. I work with aluminum on a daily basis and know that it is a "softer" metal. I've heard of M's hitting something in the water causing a dent where a glass boat would have received a crack. I weld aluminum almost on a daily basis and would be very suspect of someone welding cracks on an aluminum hull. Without proper cleaning and prepping, you're asking for trouble on a structural item.

Um, yeah dude. Like the hull got sooo stressed when it hit that bridge pier so we welded it man. . .
Or. .
Oh Boy! All the stress cracks are welded! Maybe they replaced the seacocks with carburetors too! It makes about as much sense.

How much damage was done to the bridge? Some, I'll bet!

There was a post about 15 years ago, (Fast Jeff might remember) about one early model getting cracks in the hul near midships.

Re: Stress cracks ???
I would say cracked welds are a possibility but rare. Most likely in a bad factory weld. These hulls are built very stout and have very little flexing so you will have very little stress cracking. The boat for sale sounds like someone got the boat that doesn't know anything about it. Now they are trying to sell it to get some cash. Wouldn't rule it out, but buyer beware. Two new engines? Ask for receipts. Make sure it has a good title and the trailer does too. For the right price it would be a trailer and parts for someone.

Sounds like someone's boat left at his shop and being sold for storage fees. Might be a deal at the right price.
