Dash Restoration
Dash Restoration
This is a picture of my latest restoration, it is the dash at the lower helm in the salon. I used 1/2" thick black Starboard material with the original panel as a template, routed a 45 degree chamfer around the edges and countersunk the screw holes for a finished look. Installed all new gauges and two keyed ignition switches with new fuse holders just above the switches, I did away with the original toggle ignition switches. I installed a simple pull switch on the left for the lights in the gauges and the momentary push switches for the horn and the parallel switch are on the lower right still.

Re: Dash Restoration
Looks great. I am in the process of doing the same, to both, the lower AND upper helms. trying to decide what brand of gauges to use. Are those Faria-Beede gauges? Mine was originally equipt with Sun gauges, and the previous owner replaced two tach's and two fuel gauges with Teleflex, which have never worked properly. So I'm updating all of them. Just trying to get a feel for what are the best brand for the job.

Re: Dash Restoration
The gauges are Veethree brand which is the old Teleflex brand. My boat originally had Teleflex gauges in it and they still worked fine even after 26 years but I did have to change out the senders/floats in both fuel tanks to fix my erroneous fuel gauge readings. I also restored both of my fly bridge gauge panels with a picture shared in another post here on the forum, the fly bridge gauges where badly weathered and discolored. Good luck with your decision.

Re: Dash Restoration
No way that dash panel will fall apart like the original foam ones could. Nice work!

That looks great. I was going to look at restoring all of my Aquameter guages - um I think not. They wanted $1800 to restore 2 speedometers. That really looks nice.

Re: Dash Restoration
They are all gone, trashed them when I cleaned out my storage locker. Problem is, I hesitated thinking would anyone ever be interested in these 27 year old gauges? then I tossed them. Now I'm thinking crap, somebody may actually have needed them. The fly bridge gauges were in rough shape and the main station gauges showed their age. Sorry.

Re: Dash Restoration
Carl, I sent you an email from the site but i am not certain it went through. Couple part number/source questions for you. one of my ignition fuse holders on my lower helm dash broke. Do you have a part number for that or where to get it?
Also, my toggle/breaker for my fresh water pump is tripping regularly and i believe it is going bad. i have checked the wiring and have a brand new pump but it continues to trip. Do you know the amperage of that toggle/breaker and/or where i can procure that? my boat is an 89 32' sedan. Thanks
