Capac component replacement

Postby bcassedy » Thu Nov 17, 2016 5:52 pm

When I pulled the boat this fall, I found the disk on the Capac meter is missing! (ie the outside 'cover' of the thru hull unit). Can this be repaired or is a replacement of the entire thru hull unit recommended/required?

Thx,
Bill

Possibly, but--boy howdy!--will it be expensive. You can make yourself a portable deal for well under $100 that works even better (except not underway).

There's a thread on this somewhere here.

I agree with Jeff. They are available one sore I believe in FL. Cathode was over 400 bucks!

Ouch

Thanks guys! Guess it'll boil down to practicality (make/use a homemade unit) vs esthetics/function of a standard unit (which, when the time comes, may play into the sale of the boat (and the inevitable notation by a surveyor of the absence of the cathode to a possible buyer)).

Bill, I have purchased a new Capac transducer for my boat, it is on a shelf waiting for me to haul my boat. When I get around to hauling it I will remove and inspect the transducer currently installed in my boat, I have no idea as to what condition it is in but it still works. If it is sound enough for continued service I promise you I will clean it up and ship it to you free of charge. All I ask is that you be patient as I have not scheduled the first haul out of my boat at this time so this may be a while but I keep my promises and "I say what I do and I do what I say". How does this sound?
