Hot ignition switch blowing fuses

Post by ericinga »

New boat, new problems.

Second week with the boat. Last week, I noticed the ignition switches were warm. I noticed the ECM was leaking potting material and replaced it. While the panel was off the motor, I noticed the starter solenoid was corroded and ugly. I replaced it as well.

Now, ignition fuse is blowing. This happened at 11P last night. I decided to leave it for the morning.

Obviously, I have to find a short in the wiring.

Any common failures?

Places to start?

you have a high resistance load. Start by cleaning all grounds and fuse holder for ignition. High current draw equals high amp. draw

I found the issues. Bare spot on green / red stripes wire to ballast resistor. Butt splice the wire and we are back in business.
