I think the hull is a great shield from signals. You can google for solutions --there are "relatively" cheap signal extenders such as an exterior cell antenna that will improve your reception indoors. But if stepping outside is the free solution, that's the one I'd take (of course you'll hate me when you must use the phone and it's pouring outside).

Although my stereo and ship to shore are driving me nuts I think the lack of cell reception is an added bonus to a Marinette. Work is unavailable to find me when I'm in my "safe place"...
