So far pulled port carb, turned upside down in to a shallow pan and dumped all the fuel from the carb. Put dumped fuel in glass jar and let it set for a couple hours.

Just for the heck of it I pulled the caps and looked under them no water, no arcking or corrosion.

Started and ran the boat motors at the dock for two hours, letting everything warm up. I went in to finish breakfast and when I came back to the boat the port motor had stopped

So far so good. Decided to take it out for a hard run for about 2 hours at 2800 rpms.

Remind Ron to bring his Snap-on engine analyzer / ignition system tester. It simplifies the ignition diagnosis.

Keep your eye on the ballast resistor connections. The stock spade connector can loosen and cause all kinds of trouble. I replaced them with NAPA units that bolt the wires on.

Thanks for the ballast resistor information. Jeff
I did buy two new transistorized ignition modules from Auto Zone made by Wells CR109
( Thanks Ron Spies)
and they only have 4 pins, so I do not need the ballast resistor that feed the missing pin. Only the one for the coil. My spade connectors are all very tight. But it is on my bucket list to replace those dual risters with the single ones.. One more piece of the equation put to rest.
Tomorrow its off to the Detroit Freedom Fireworks show on the river for a good shake down cruise.

Uh-oh! May have spotted a problem.
As I read your post, you are running the Chrysler ignition modules. If so, the modules MUST use a resistor, regardless of how many pins it has. The module was NOT designed to run on a straight 12 volts and will eventually fry itself. (Guess how I found THAT out!)
A word on the 4 vs. 5 pin ECMs (ignition modules); Being super anal, Chrysler engineers set them up to run on two voltages, approximately 9 volts AND approximately 6 volts. That 5th pin in the module--and the second path through the ballast resistor--was for that 6 volt circuit. It was totally unnecessary and eliminate in CARS and trucks in later models.

Well ...... About half way up to the fireworks mr. starboard decided to sputter out and stall. Boat full of people so we continued on with the port engine only. Got up there and anchored. Thanks Ron and Art. Did some simple checks but found nothing. Watched the fireworks which were amazing. After show ended I started up both engines.

Jeff, I installed the new Wells CR109 4 pin ignition modules using the dual ballast resistors. The four pin module does not use the ballast resister. The wire from the ballast resister going to the 4 pin module goes to the missing pin on the nodule.
