1988 Chrysler 318 Temp Sending Unit

Post by RosieB12 »

Does anyone have a line on engine temp sending units for my 1988 Chrysler 318's??? I've purchased and returned 3 already because the thread is too large for the hole. Thanks, RosieB12.

Take the old one off and take it with you to a good auto parts store. Napa is pretty good. :D

Those babies get dirty--did you try cleaning the old one and checking the contacts?

Note that sender units are different for dual stations. If yours has only a lower helm (like mine), the normal sender units will work. Dual helms require a different sender. (Just how I found that out!)

Thank you gentlemen. Mine is a dual station. I took the sending unit to NAPA and Smyth and AutoZone etc etc. They all seem baffled, though a couple sold me the units only to discover the thread size was wrong. I also tried cleaning and that didn't seem to work. I'm now wondering if there isn't a short somewhere in the circuit back to the gauges. Ugh! So ... I'm shooting the exhaust manifold periodically with my laser temp gun to make sure I'm not running hot. So far...so good. Peace. BILL

West Marine carries dual station sender units.
