Wow Carl, tearing right into it !! What are the plans? Re-build stock engines? Re-power to more modern engines? Diesel?? What's the scoop?

Suggestion as you rework the bilge area. I don't know how the GM engines set up the oil filter, but on the Chrysler 318 one of them (the starboard) was on the far side of the engine. Best thing I did down there was to install a remote filter. It hung near the inboard front of the engine, above the battery box. You could choose another place, of course. But it saved me lots of pain and suffering - sitting on the engine to swap out filters. It was cheap. Just a fitting for where the filter originally sat and a hose and a bracket to hold the filter at its new location. Two other notes if you do this: support the hose well. And, the part, curiously enough, was marked for a Ford engine. I suspect there is a corresponding part for a GM engine.

You may be able to get around all this in your grand rework if GM gives you the ability to pick the filter location, left side or right side.

I repowered a 32 sedan last year with crusaders. Went surprisingly easy. Used original trans mounts and crusader front engine mounts. The only issue we had was we had to notch the frame member under the front of each engine to clear the pulley and belt on the raw water pumps. Not a big deal though.
