Just a thought: letting out more line gives greater holding power.

I had a lightweight anchor, a little Danforth. I learned it was only good for a "lunch hook", no matter how much scope it had. Easily fouled with seaweed and was really just something to drag around. You can see it in the photo over on the left on deck, neglected and unloved.
