I'd say your tale will make for a good "fireside chat" but the bow of our 32' wouldn't accommodate a fire ring very well! Sooooo, we'll just do what we always do and the "deck is yours", Joel....

I decided to go with the original plan of hinged gate. The local marina has some hinges that would work so now I just have to get a latch.

My 87 Sportsman has the drop in Starboard for the transom gate.

Jeboniface,

Do you have a ladder that drops down from the swim platform into the water with your modifications? If so could you post a photo when you get a chance. Thanks

Had to add a couple of steps to the ladder on my old boat (including my bow rider). Just how the designers think some other than an athlete can climb out of the water on one fool step astounds me!

I have an undermount three step teliscoping ladder. Easy to mount on the plastic platform.

Here's what brought the drop-in slat to mind. A few nights before I saw the transom gate post, I watched the Robt Redford movie, Lost At Sea in which his sailboat is rammed by a huge shipping container far out at sea. The radio fails and the guy is stuck to make it as best he can by his own wits. Sailboats have the slats to keep water out of the cabin and the film showed him taking them out/putting them in a few times to keep storm water out. So when this post appeared, the idea was fresh in mind. Good movie to remind us being prepared at sea...even not far away from shore..is very important. What can happen will happen.

Too bad the jerk (R R) wasn't lost at sea.

Metalhead,
It appears your drop in color matches the transom's color. Did you use starboard? And were you able to paint it?
