I have 78 37DC with 440's. I purchased as a project and am trying to find the correct prop size. She has 19x19 currently. I haven't had her in the water yet but just checking to see if we are propped correctly.

Hmm so I may be under propped. I'll have to check that when I get back home.

Our props are 19x19. The boat runs well with them, especially if you have several extra guests along for the ride. The props were 19x21 when we bought her. We dropped pitch after we added an enclosure to the fly bridge and filled the boat with gear.
I would run the boat to see where your WOT RPM's are at. If they stay within Chryslers recommended spec then I would leave them be.
If you are unsure of the condition of your props, it might consider pulling your props and have a prop shop do a prop scan on them. When ours were checked the shop found different pitch on blades as well as some blades slightly shorter than others.

Good luck with your project.

Rob

Wow that is all great info. I used to use Herring blue props to tune go fast boats to find that extra MPH. Livorsi came out with a prop slip gauge and that helped allot but as I mentioned in a different post I know how to not be a total noob but going from a fuel injected performance boat to resurrecting a 78 Chrysler 440 big M is a whole new world. Thanks for the info and the props will get pulled and scanned asap. I promised my family we would be in the water this summer and I lost all of last summer and winter so it's time to get things sorted and get her belly wet.

Our 39 with 454 Crusaders is running 19x22 - so I was told by the previous owner. It ran well with not much on board. I should check it loaded with our stuff now.

Don't worry about "noob" status here, this forum is full of great people willing to help.
