That's a wonderful sound to hear a new engine come to life, and a great feeling too. Love following this thread.

Javalin, THANKS.....I'm no mechanic, but every time I finish an engine and it fires I am absolutely thrilled. I have one black mark on my record....a god forsaken volkswagen 1600cc (i think) engine that I built when I was 16. I don't talk about it. Anyway, I picked up the stbd engines heads from the machine shop this afternoon and figured y'all would like to see.

Standard rebuild with the addition of: stainless valves (to replace the sodium filled valves), hardened seats, all new guides, "extreme" duty hardware (retainers, keepers, and springs). Cost a freakin arm and a leg but I'm hoping they are worth it.

the starboard velvet drive was in much worse shape than the port. I bought all new bearings off of amazon using the original bearings part numbers. SOOOO much cheaper than buying any kit from Borg Warner.
