Anchors

I recently bought an 86 32' flybridge sedan. Its anchor has a bent shaft and does not look adequate to me. Are there any recomendations as to the size (weight) and type to get. The areas I sail have sand ore mud bottoms.

Hard to go wrong with a Danforth type. You might need a second for a stern anchor.

Been using a Fortress for several years with very good results. I have a few feet of heavy chain to help hold it down. No issues in the mud/sand.

The chain is what makes the anchor hold. Use lots of chain.

22 lbs Danforth 15' chain 150' rope, works real good for us.

That combination should more than do it. For size, have a look at the manufacturer's recommendations. Here is a link to Fortress: https://fortressanchors.com/selection-guide/fortress/

Then scour e-bay and Craigslist. I bought a Fortress for $50 a few years ago from a Craigslist ad and it just happened to be from the guy in the slip behind me! That particular anchor would have been too small for his 40' Mainship.

Good luck.

remember to always carry a spare anchor (with line) -- doesn't have to be as big or hefty as main.
