28 on the way to Uruguay

Post by shade2u2 »

Well I sold my 1984 28 in October of last year. It has been interesting and the boat was finally picked up yesterday. I took it to a local heavy equipment company and it was transferred onto the transporter's trailer.
The vessel is now on it's way to the port and then to URUGUAY...
I hope that the new owner enjoys the boat as much as we have...
I left a USA flag in the cabin - maybe it will be flown in South America for a day. lol

Would be nice if the new owner would join the group. We might see photos in it's new home.

I put it for sale last year after buying our 39 Sedan. We listed it on Craigslist and on Facebook Marketplace. In August I got a message in part Spanish and translated English that someone was interested in the boat. After a couple of months of communication and not expecting it to be true, I sent a purchase agreement which he signed. Then in October Eduardo from Uruguay and his daughter were at my house looking at the boat and we closed the cash deal. He transferred the title in Ohio.

It then was a challenge for them to get the transportation lined up at their end. The buyer wanted the trailer, but it's really just a local/yard trailer and it could not be arranged to transport both in a economical way. The boat sat in storage at my place until this past Monday. I took it 4 miles to the heavy equipment company that I know and it was transferred to the transporter's trailer at the buyers expense. Unfortunately he missed his summer season in the southern hemisphere due to this delay. Winter is coming down there now.

Eduardo is a member here but I don't think he is on much. It was a pleasure meeting him and his daughter who spoke a little better English and acted as the translator. He just retired as a medical doctor in Uruguay and he is planning to do a lot of boating on River Negro (Black River) in Uruguay. As I said before, I did leave the USA flag and did ask him to send a picture of it on the river. Not sure he understood...

If you have email contact with the buyer, Google will help you do a very good translation. It'll make you almost a native speaker of many languages. Great story -- the gent must really have wanted an M

I did use Google translator, but some detailed topics about the boat or transportation didn't always translate well. It help with some general discussion though.

After seeing boats slam and bang their way down highways on trailers with no suspension or shocks, I hope yours survives the trip. And, yes, highway travel is far more violent than hitting rough water.

Well the boat finally arrived in Montevideo Uruguay last week. The owner had challenges coordinating the transportation. He sent me a picture of it unloading. No pictures on the water yet.
