Hello Aluminum Cruiser owners. We purchased a 1978 Marinette flybridge with a single 318.
Love the boat. When we tried to get it registered county clerk said we need a rubbing of thevin number or hull number. Can anybody tell us where that number is located?

The vin/hull number (it's actually called HIN, hull identification number) required to be attached to boats was on or just below the stern rub rail. It was a required tag starting for boats made after Nov 1972. Pretty sure this photo with the location circled is accurate. I believe the number started with letters ALC for Aluminum Cruisers

Thanks for the Hull number location...
Getting ready to change the oil for the first time in the 28 fly bridge. Single 318 with 2300 hours,. Motor ran smooth last fall which was the first season we had the boat. What kind of oil can someone recommend? 5 or 6 qts. with filter change. Any recommendations for removing oil filter?

(btw - it's a better idea to limit threads to the initial topic. In this case, the topic was HIN's. Cramming in another subject like oil and oil changes is confusing and makes searches more difficult. It would have been better had I not responded but since the original poster is new to the site, I answered but made the suggestion to start a new topic/thread to try to be helpful)

diFrenzi...

To give you an idea on oil filter changes...
- Get a low height pan to catch the oil.
- Use a standard oil filter wrench to initially loosen and then you'll be able to unscrew the filter. With the pan underneath the pan you should catch all the oil that'll come out before you can get the filter in an upright orientation.
- Wipe the mating surface AND visually check that surface to ensure it's clear of any residual gasket material from the just removed (or possibly previous) filter.

(Sorta wish you had a 2 engine set up. Would've provided an opportunity for that setup's recommendations...
- Port engine -> Be a contortionist (especially if you have a genny mounted between the engines!) ;)
- Starboard engine -> See Port engine PLUS be thin!

Would suggest that a change of subject (oil change vs vin #) would warrant a new topic creation. It helps things straight for us old(er) folks. :D
