Question: Oil Capacity in a Chrysler 360?

Postby carl » Mon Dec 31, 2018 9:53 pm

Does anyone know the crankcase oil capacity in a Chrysler 360 motor? How many quarts? First time changing the oil and I can't find this specification.

About 5 quarts (plus one for the filter). I recommend Shell Rotella, or another good oil of your choice. Be sure to add a half can of Lucas ZDDP additive for protection of the flat tappet cam. (A good auto store has it, or Amazon.)

Modern roller cam engines don't need ZDDP, so modern oils have little of it (for supposed "air pollution" reasons.

Wow, I'm surprised its only six quarts total, I assumed it would be more like ten quarts. Thank you for this information. Just went to Autozone for the Lucas ZDDP but they don't stock it. I will find it elsewhere.

Not sure if they are different, but there are two different oil pans for the Mopars, one is stamped steel, like on a Dodge truck, the other, as on my M, are cast aluminum. Depending on the transmission/outdrive is what determined the oil pan.

Amazon lists the ZDDP additive. About 16 bucks.
