I am putting a new oil pump on rebuilt 318 engine and the spec's say 35lbs. That sounds kind of light for something I really don't want to come loose once I have the engine back in the boat. I put some high temp lock tight on them. How tight do you guys recommend?

Go by the book. 35lbs sounds right. I have never seen an oil pump come loose, ever.

For your piece of mind, you could Lock Tite the bolts.

Go by the size not the purpose of the bolt or cap screw. Rule of thumb is people over tighten little bolts and under tighten big ones. I have fought Loctite that the factory used, so I don't use it much. If the bolts are important, just safety them. Drill the heads or get drilled bolts and safety wire them, or use a plate under them with a tab that will bend up against the flat of the head, or with nuts and bolts use a castellated nut and a cotter key
