In another thread I saw a gentleman "named" Harryb mention an "lx301" solving his ignition problems and utilizing the factory chrysler distributor. This may be old news for the majority of y'all but if your interested read on.

Below is a link to hot rod mag detailing the conversion.

Seems extremely easy and cheap. I love everything mopar, but this is a neat conversion.

No reason that won't work. Note that they retain the stock magnetic trigger to signal the HEI module (which are cheap and readily available).

That article in hot rod forum ls how I converted my ignitions. I put the heat sinks on the brackets holding the two red button breakers and wired the lx301's as shown. This conversion has eliminated multiple corrosion inducing connections and worked very well for me. I'm surprised more haven't done the same. BigM

I just got my engines put back in my boat, so once everything is back to working perfectly and all bugs gone I will probably go through and do this. I really like the idea of ditching the resistor.

I made a PDF so you can have this article close by.

I credited the source.

Default paper size is 11x17 but it should print to 8.5 x 11 as well.

I'm an old hot rodder and I think more spark has got to be better, but don't we need to worry about spark jumping around in the engine compartment?
Just saying.

What would be sparking in the engine bay? We are removing a resistor and swapping a control unit. I might be missing something.

I was speaking about using an aftermarket high voltage coil.

Went to start port engine and it cranks but no fire. Discovered no spark. Replaced trigger and new coil and engine fired immediately ran for 10 seconds and fried coil. Any ideas what will cause this? Its a 1990 318 250HP
