1975 37 sedan.

My port side rudder box leaks water. The plastic packing box may have a crack in it. Do you all know what I need to do to fix this situation? Do I need to buy the box listed on the first page? Is this something that can happen from bad wadding?

My plan is to pull out next week for under paint,a couple through hull fittings and to fix this leak. Any idea on what I need to look for? Perhaps a proceedural?

Thanks for an help.

IF there is no crack, and IF the packing is not shot, you can simply tighten the gland a bit more until the leak stops.

This is NOT like a prop shaft packing gland where high rpm friction will cause heat damage.

I realize this is an old post, but trying to figure out where to get rudder stuffing boxes. Would the ones linked below work? I have a 32' with 1 inch prop shafts (assuming the rudder shafts are the same diameter).

Thanks!
