If you want a quick, informed briefing on marine radar, go to the West Marine site. I just checked for you and found two articles- easy to understand, not a lot of tech mumbo jumbo.

For my money, I don't think any of us needs industrial strength radar, we aren't pushing a dozen barges or piloting an oil tanker on the high seas. From my reading, it's important to teach yourself what the blips and blobs on the screen mean. But read the items and I hope you'll post here what you take away from it all and how you proceed.
