A 60' Marinette ?

Post by javalin390 »

Was cruising the web and found an M on Boats.com. At first glance I dismissed this one as a Marinette Marine ship, but upon looking at the ad, it is in fact a 60' Marinette Aluminum Cruiser. It has a catamaran hull with two Detroit Diesel engines. It has two levels, the upper consists of the helm, large salon with a wet bar and what appears to be a small head. The lower level has what appears to be a single state room, the galley and large dining area. The ad states it as being a 1960. Has anyone ever seen this boat or know of its history? http://www.boats.com/power-boats/1960-m ... e-5802454/

Looking through those pictures, a few of them show a cabin window with the name "Sorry Dog" printed on it.

Sorry Dog used to be a member of the forum. More experienced members might still know how to contact him...FastJeff, BarkleyDave, Bill?

That might be Sorry Dog's old boat, in fact. He had one just like that.

Haven't heard from him in years. Hope he's okay.

There was a cat-hull Marinette for sale in Wisconsin. I don't think it was that big... wow

That's Sorrydog's old boat . He built the upper decks himself. Any one can reach him at psorrydog@aol.com. He replaced one of those engines by cutting a hole in hull & rewelded it back up. Nice guy.

I went ahead & emailed Sorrydog and he sent a reply just this evening. First off he would like to say "Hello" to old friends here. He also asked for the link to Boats.com so he could see her. Sadly he explained the story as to why the boat is where it is now. He told me he and his son had done a high dollar re-do on her back in 2000 (including a hot tub !!) and had planned on setting sail for the tropics, but unfortunately his son passed away unexpectedly, and he lost interest in her and sold her to the person that is currently trying to sell her. He said after the refurb, as some of the pictures show, it turned out very beautiful, but as some of the newer photo's show, she has been sitting, neglected in dry dock for the last 4 years. Almost heartbreaking. Which leads me to believe that the asking price is way to high, as it would take as much to bring her back up to her former glory. If I had the time & money, I'd love to save her.
