Looking for Windshield adjusters for an Express model

Post by edlewis1000 »

Hi All, I a new poster but long time reader of this forum, I really enjoy the detailed rebuilds that are posted in this forum. Please keep them coming!

I have a 1966 26' Express that I purchased earlier this year. It is in descent shape for it's age with some "improvements" over the years. The re-power with a Chevy 350 was a good improvement because there are a lots of repair parts available. Carpeting on the area in front of the helm, bad "improvement", on Lake Erie that just ends up being a major spider magnet. So it has all been removed. When they added the carpeting they also removed the original bottom center mount windshield adjusters manufactured by Perko and put on side mount adjusters. The side mount adjusters don't work as well as the original, in that they don't let the windshields open completely and they bind the further the windshields are opened, so I would like to replace these with the original style, but I haven't been able to find that style. So I'm looking for a set of original Express windshield adjuster if anyone has or knows of anyone that has a set they are willing to sell. Thanks and keep up the great rebuild posts

May be hard to find. One day I'm going to pull mine out and put in linear actuators. You might consider that. When I get around to doing mine I will check with you to see if you still need the old ones. Wayne

You mean like this one:

Yes, they are much better than those finger-pinching side mounts.

You might even be able to make some with a little bit of engineering.

Good luck.

I'm thinking of rechroming my original 86' windshield adjusters only if anchors are wood screwed to helm shelf and not nut and bolted...does anyone know for sure

Mine were held to the dash with sheet metal screws and to the windshield frame with machine screws.
