My 37' with small block Chrysler has 1.25" shafts. The big block Crusaders (Chevy's) may be bigger.

I'm guessing the rotational direction is solely based on fan rotation, being weather it's pulling or pushing air to cool the unit. if that's the case, I don't think it would matter in a Big M.
