318 tuning problem uneven plug fouling

Spark plugs in the front cylinders are fouling quickly. Plugs in the rear cylinders are burning clean. I have Edelbrock 1409 carbs and original intake manifolds. The Carter carbs did not have any spacer under them so I didn't think to use one when I put the Edelbrocks in. Edelbrock suggested a 1 in ...

Re: Hatch Gasket Material

I'll try this. My hatch is a Zimmco and it had a square O-ring gasket that was petrified. I tried a Buna replacement and find it is too hard. The other issue I have with the hatch is condensation on the interior. Has anyone tried coating the hatch with anything or making an insulated plug to push up...

Re: Diagnosing a LM318......

If you have water in the iol you have to fix that before going on with the troubleshooting. Good luck!

Re: Diagnosing a LM318......

Hope it's your plugs. I always start the season with a fresh set. I do a lot of canal travel and lots of time at/near idle is a killer.

Re: Electric feed to 41' boat - major issue

In the case of an old boat it is a good idea to look at the wiring as it exists and draw the schematic yourself to look at. Just an idea, but it isn't likely that two A/Cs and everything else can run on one 30 amp circuit. The previous owner might have put everything on one line because there was on...

Re: Chrysler 318 thermostat housing lip seal

I talked to the thermostat manufacturer. It a Caltherm CT2208-38. They recognize the part number but that's as far as it goes. I found the 1968 thru '74 parts manual for the LM318 and it does not show the lip seal that is inside the housing as a part, only the housing. I figure this is a dead end. S...

Re: Chrysler 318 thermostat housing lip seal

Thanks Jim, I have the proper thermostat. The housing has a lip seal in it that the chrome "barrel" of the thermostat slides in so that opening the thermostat turns the housing into a valve. This thing is a serious piece of engineering. It will seal so tight that I expect I need to remove ...

Chrysler 318 thermostat housing lip seal

This is a long shot. The raw water cooling version of the '68 to "70something has a thermostat I've seen here referred to as the "barrel style". The so-called barrel rides on a lip seal as it opens and closes. I have one that begs for replacement. I haven't removed it yet because I ca...

Sounds like the end of a very good chapter Dave, and not the last chapter in the book.

Re: We forget why we are B M boaters!

I agree. I've spent two months on the Canadian side cruising the St. Lawrence. Yesterday I locked up the Oswego River and it was a glorious fall day. The trees are changing color. In about a week the Erie Canal closes for the season, so it's an enjoy it while it lasts.
