Just for the record, you can tighten the HELL out of the rudder stuffing box to keep it from leaking (since it doesn't see rpms like the prop shaft).

Re: Fastjeff, Help on rudder cutlass
You can clean the hole up so they go in easier by using a drum sander in a fast drill. Ace sells all kinds of sizes, from 1 to 3 inch diameter.

Re: Getting ready to blast
My guy took several hours and a pallet of sand to do my 32 footer. I'm still finding sand in the wine cellar and window tracks--and that was 10 years ago!--so be sure to mask thoroughly.

One other thing: FWCooling so the exhaust system will last more than 5 years.

Re: Saltwater suicide?
No problem if:
1. The anodes are correct and in good condition
2. There are no dumb stuff like bronze cutlass bearings (ah-hem)
3. The flap over the stuffing box to keep salt water spray down is in place
4. The CAPAC is operating properly so you can see what's happening.

Re: Fuel gauge sending unit
You mean you have to open the cockpit hatch and get down in there to see how much gas you got?
Tough to do on the bouncing main!

Re: Fastjeff, Help on rudder cutlass
With a BMF hammer!
One can be "sensible" and make up a simple puller with a long threaded rod (1/2 inch minimum) and some...'things' (flat washers etc.) on one end to push against the bearing. Use a piece of pipe larger that the bearing and 'pull' it into the pipe.
Good luck!

Re: Fuel gauge sending unit
The problem with relying on the flow meter to tell you how much gas has been consumed is someone (not you, of course!) may accidentally turn off the Perko switch and poof! your reading(s) are gone, off to electronic never-never land.
