Re: Diesel Repower 1989 32' Fisherman

"jsutton" I'm taking her down to bare aluminum wish me luck! From my own experience and observation, Marinette did a good job of laying down a barrier/primer coat over the aluminum. So you may want to consider leaving it alone. On the other hand, the paint they used for topcoat was terrib...

Re: Sliding Window Poly Glide

Some folks have trimmed down the window track so they can just tip in replacement glass instead of removing the track. If that even works wouldn't a shorter window glass tip in also? For a moment, I thought that was a really clever solution to quick in-out of the windows without the need to remove ...

Re: Hot exhaust and Steam

there is mention of an oil cooler filter? Where would that live so I can check it? Also, should I pull the manifold to see what it looks like in there? On my 318, the oil cooler was at the base of the left side of the engine, about the size/shape of a can of soda (maybe a little slimmer). Halfway b...

Re: Getting out of the engine compartment

I had always intended to mount a small ladder to the underside of the engine hatch because I was fighting a losing battle with gravity over the years. Never got around to it. But it would have been a simple sturdy pole and rail affair with just a couple of steps. Held in place by something like a bu...

Re: Leaving Boat In Water All Winter In Huron, Ohio

I'm not worried about it freezing or being damaged from the water in the marina freezing at all.
Curious to know what you plan to do to protect hull and plumbing systems over those harsh Ohio winters?

Re: seam caulking

Between 5200 and 4200, I'd lean to 4200 because 5200 is very difficult to remove (it is sold as permanent but I once saw an article in the Boat DIY magazine that described the stuff to use to loosen it. Sorry, my brain didn't retain the name of the solvent. Boat US bought the magazine and may have a...

Re: New member just bought the Baltimore M32

Ask your intended insurance company for recommendations. When I did the purchase survey (eons ago), Boat US, my insurer, gave me names of several. I know you probably got a bargain on the boat judging from the various postings about it. A thorough, tough surveyor - one you not the seller or broker c...

Re: Depth Sounder dooh!

Do check Airmar. Their lists of transducers is quite long and you may find a fix. And, I think I've read that these cables can be CAREFULLY spliced (but that's not recommended). But having the yard that cut the wrong cable provide a replacement is only fair. You shouldn't be making work-arounds.

Re: 34' Marquis Sedan

The reason for the scarcity of 34 footers is no doubt tied to the fact that Marinette as a company was sinking in the early 90's. They were auctioned off in 94. The 34's were probably an effort to try something that might increase sales. It obviously was not enough. We were in a recession in 90-91, ...
