Re: One engine cruising (dragging prop)
With the Borg Warner Velvet Drive, the manual says that there is no problem to run with one engine off and the transmission in neutral. Put the shifter in gear and I don't think much will happen without the engine running. You need the engine running to turn the hydraulic pump in the transmission to...

Re: 12 Volt DC Main Panel Restoration
Panels look nice. I'm sure that everything will be better than new. The factory took a lot of shortcuts to keep the costs down. One thing I did differently is my bilge pumps (all 4 of them ) are either on manually, or on automatically. There is no off position. I want them to work. Good luck with yo...

It will vary boat to boat and day to day. Figure 3 feet and worry when you are in 5 feet of water.

Re: Aft Deck Restoration
The aluminum I have for my deck is 5/32 and is very solid. There is a lot of framing on our boats to support the deck. I think you could use 1/8 and be just fine. I removed some of the support to work, and remove the gas tank, never put it back in as did not need it. If you do use a plastic decking,...

Re: Aft Deck Restoration
If you use Riv-nuts you will find they will sometimes spin on you. They are thin, but do not sit perfectly flush with the surface, so you get a little bump every place there is one. They will corrode as you can't get them in the correct alloy. Then they will spin on you and make you mad. So the answ...

Re: Aft Deck Restoration
The only way I would weld the deck would be to have the fuel tanks out and at least 100 feet away, or to fill them and all piping full of water. You want to be able to pull the tanks. I think the only way to go is counter sunk screws. Have one drill with the right size sharp drill bit, another drill...

Re: Aft Deck Restoration
Yes on the aluminum, teak over it if you want the authentic look and the maintenance. Just leave it bare aluminum if you want a low maintenance aluminum boat. But do not, do not, do not, weld the deck down! First reason is you would be welding right over the gas tanks, second the deck would probably...

Re: Propeller Shaft Anodes
I used Boat Zinc on mine and they needed replacement every two years (in brackish water). That means they were working, right? Jeff That is why they are called "sacrificial" anodes. Better to have them get eaten up or dissolved than the boat. I put new shaft anodes on every year. It is ha...

Re: Re-power
These boats really are rather simple. Sometimes hard to reach with limited room. A good mechanic should not have a problem if you can get the parts. If you keep away from complicated electronics and outboards you make things a lot easier. Sometimes we learn the hard way unfortunately. Wish you have ...
