Re: Engine Temperature spike
Ok, replaced both 160 deg thermostats with the 140 deg type. Both engines running a tad cooler and no temp spikes on STBD to speak of. I feel confident that this issue is now closed. Thx everyone for comments and support. Makes me wish I had more issues to solve
Sincerely,
Joe

Re: Engine Temperature spike
If after checking it’s not working, what T-stat would you recommend? Any standard 160 deg for the 1984ish 318?

Re: Engine Temperature spike
Behavior seems indicative of a bum T-stat. And now I’m 2nd guessing whether I did or didn’t put the “new” one in or not. Anything is possible. Time to change it out again, dag-nabbit. Anything for my Big M!

Re: Engine Temperature spike
So, it was a nice night and was able to take a serious longer ride at various speeds. Regarding my temp issue on STB engine, I did realize some temp spikes, but much less frequent, and still all occurrences at lower speeds (1500rpm or less), and always immediately self-correcting. Furthermore, when ...

Re: Engine Temperature spike
Ok... I disassembled, cleaned and re-assembled the strainer gaskets. Made sure the small tapered o-ring gasket under the strained lid plate was seated and cleaned. Long-story short, both strainers were robustly “boiling” with intake water!! So, I can check that off the list. I will grab my cousin an...

Re: Engine Temperature spike
Ray/Jeff, very interesting. I noticed a seeming lack of flow in both strainers upon initial launch. Port was humming like a teapot last year, now both were streaming into to strainer at a “dull” pace. Although the temp issue again was on the STB only. I’ll start with the easy stuff and replace the s...

Engine Temperature spike
I encountered an issue of my 1984 Chrysler 318 Stb engine temperature spiking end of last year and now more frequently today on our maiden 2019 voyage. I’ll be going along fine around 160 Degrees and suddenly the gauge rises to 200+. Typically it corrects itself after slow down. Sometimes, a bit of ...
