Re: Sensor on back of Intake manifold.....

Sounds like your oil alarm switch. Grounds out to activate a light, buzzer, bell, etc if the oil pressure drops below a certain pressure. Very common part at any auto part store. Very common to start leaking after so many years. Might even be a part number stamped in the steel body.

cam timing

The last year had been busy with Chrysler marine rebuilds. 3 of the 318s that I had built all had the same issue upon reassembly. Don't know if anybody knows or cares about this, but I thought I would share anyways. When I install new cams and timing chains, I will almost always check cam timing. Th...

Re: Fuel or Ignition Issues After Warm Up

First, spend the money and get a good in line spark tester. These are encased in plastic and have one or two leads coming out of either end. This will be the handiest tool you will ever own for ignition diagnosis. Put it in line with the easiest plug wire to see while driving. If you can put it in l...

Don't feel bad. I scratched a hole into my brain before I figured it out.

Re: Sea rooster to motor lines

It is interesting that the factory diagrams you posted show the water tube in the manifolds only on the non mixing tee system. If you look at the papers supplied with the new barr manifolds, they show the opposite. I have only had good luck doing it the way barr recomends. If I follow what the chrys...

Re: Sea rooster to motor lines

Your friends boat sounds like it was overheating, so they put a restrictor in the bypass line. I have never seen it done there but chrysler had a TSB showing the use of restricting washers between the manifolds and risers/outlets. He probably has another issue that is being masked. Which hose are yo...

Re: muffler

My mufflers were trashed. All the guts were gone inside so I pulled them. I love the way she sounds straight piped. I get many compliments on her "tone". Maybe when I get older I will put mufflers back in, or maybe not...

Re: Exhaust manifolds

I have also found that there are different grades of gaskets. I try to use the ones from Marysville Marine. They are a thicker, more dense material and I have had better luck with those gaskets. Either barr or osco supplies similar gaskets. Some places supply a thin black gasket that does not hold u...

Re: Packing boxes RUDDER

My boat has bronze glands on it. They had to be replaced, but that is another story. What had happened though, is the aluminum upper support bracket had come into contact with the packing nut. The support corroded so bad, I had to replace the one. I was able to clean up the other, rotate the support...

Re: muffler

When I pulled the mufflers from my '72, they ran slightly uphill towards the transom. The hangers were still connected but could have been stretched and made the front of the muffler drop. Many of the early runabouts used to run the copper exhaust pipe under the floor, then curve it up and run out t...
