Re: Fuel system upgrades
I had the quadrajet with that filter at its fuel inlet point. And it caused the same problems you noted when it got clogged. I attached a marked up shot of yours with the question of whether the Edelbrock has the same filter.

Re: How can I identify if manifolds/risers are leaking water into exhaust?
27 years on manifolds is at or past their life span. The mode of running as you described it doesn't factor in. As for a 1200 mile round trip, that is a love of boating. Beats Jeff's Allentown PA to northern Chesapeake Bay by lots of miles. Only you can determine whether you have the skills to do th...

Re: How can I identify if manifolds/risers are leaking water into exhaust?
Sounds like you are doing the right thing but perhaps it's time to pull the risers/manifolds and check their condition. You indicate the hours on the engine but if the cooling system is as old as the boat, it's time to get a first hand look. Those parts corrode even in fresh water. I've seen it repo...

Re: Fuel Range
While Jeff is ruminating, I'll weigh in. Top items for me: clean bottom makes a huge difference. Load you're carrying and how you distribute it. Less here is more. Trim (angle of boat through the water) so you're not plowing (bow up high). And speeds (crawling gets good range but you wonder whether ...

Re: engine swap
Are you sure you're on plane at 1700 rpm/10 mph? Sounds kinda low on both numbers. Do you have trim tabs?barefoot99 wrote:. Cruise mostly at 1700rpm @10mph. 360's made 250 HP on the dyno at 4000rpm.

Re: engine swap
Maybe the experts at an engine rebuilding company such as Jasper can answer your question definitively and then you can relay the answer to the community

I'm not a motorhead but wonder whether mismatched engines will give you less (or more headaches) than you need.

Re: Velvet drive oil levels
Don't know whether you saw FastJeff's advice on checking trans oil levels. He recommends it be done with the oil hot (after running), shut down and immed check levels.
